The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

West concerned by Iran fraud claims

Western powers have reacted strongly to reports of irregularities in Iran's elections, following the poll victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's incumbent president.

Politicians around the world expressed concern as thousands of protesters took to the streets in Tehran, some waging running battles with police, accusing Ahmadinejad of stealing the election from Mir Hossein Mousavi, his reformist rival...

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German foreign minister, said the "course of the election in Iran raises many questions". He said he had summoned the Iranian ambassador to explain the events following the election...

In the UK, several hundred Iranians demonstrated in front of the Iranian consulate in London on Saturday, chanting pro-Mousavi slogans and holding up signs that read, "where is my vote?"

"The result is truth-less, it's baseless. Nobody around Iran can say that this result is okay or acceptable for us," one demonstrator said...

France said that it was monitoring the situation closely. Bernard Kouchner, France's foreign minister, criticised the Iranian security forces' "somewhat brutal crackdown" on protesters which he said "could leave lasting scars"...

Israel has for years expressed concern about Iran, warning it could be building a nuclear weapon. Danny Ayalon, Israel's deputy foreign minister, said: "The re-election of Ahmadinejad demonstrates the increasing Iranian threat."

Amr Moussa, the Arab League chief, said he hoped Ahmadinejad's second term would boost co-operation to achieve peace and rid the region of weapons of mass destruction. "I believe the situation could move in the direction of quieter talks and understanding. Dialogue is the name of the game," he said.

The issue that is being seen in the area actually is kind of a bummer,
The current leader, who claimed a landslide election is now faced with some major issues, 1. He can not climb down the steps on which he claimed victory.

    2. he can not peacefully state he didnt win due to the large margin of 63 percent

the only outcome that can come of this issue is going to be the leader Shah or the high leader will get the recount, which will create a second election, because it will show a large difference in the vote, this will be between the two men who is the leader, and the opposition. The only issue is that the current leader will still create a margin of win that will out last his opposition. Sadly he will not be able to give up his power till the end of his 2 terms.

I would not look for anything to change and I seriously doubt there will be any further elections. I could be surprised about that but I really doubt it because the Supreme Leader might put himself out of a job since one of the reforms Mir Hossein Mousavi campaigned on was to change the laws so the Supreme Leader is also an elected position.

But in the meantime there appears to be more and more opposition to the outcome of the election. And here's a list of seven demands that is being circulated.

7 point statement distributed among the protesters in Tehran today:
    1. Dismissal of Khamenei for not being a fair leader
    2. Dismissal of Ahmadinejad for his illegal acts
    3. Temporary appointment of Ayatollah Montazeri as the Supreme Leader
    4. Recognition of Mousavi as the President
    5. Forming the Cabinet by Mousavi to prepare for revising the Constitution
    6. unconditional and immediate release of all political prisoners
    7. Dissolution of all organs of repression, public or secret

I agree that I kind of like what has been happening in Iran. I do believe that the violence needs to stop. Violence will not accomplish much. But, at least they are taking their own country into their own hands. Why should the USA or the UN always have to "fix" their internal problems. By taking a "hands off" approach, the people see who the real demon is: their own leaders, not the "western" countries that are often seen as bullies.

We have many Iranian students in our universities, that I think, tend to be open-minded. Some of them are religious and some are not. Either way, they are intelligent and critical thinkers.

I'm with you. We fixed the problems in Iran for both the people of Iran and ourselves when we overthrew the democratically elected Prime Minister in the 1950's and put the dictating Shaw of Iran and his death squads in power which is what actually started the Iranian revolution in the 1970's.

So maybe this time we'll have sense enough to stay out of it. And like said earlier on this thread keep Israel out of it too.

I just wanted to update this with a couple of things I just heard off the BBC.

There were an estimated 1 MILLION PEOPLE protesting yesterday.

There were seven people killed when they ALLEGEDLY tried to storm an army facility.

During an interview with an Iranian woman she spoke the words that have escaped me up until now:

"The genie is out of the bottle."

I could easily be wrong but it seems to me if they've got a million people in the street they are more than ready. They are unstoppable.

The Guardian Council has now announced that it will re-count votes in areas where the result is disputed by the opposition. This is itself is an embarassing climbdown, but since the general opinion is that it was the Council itself, not Ahmedinajad, who fixed the result in the first place, I highly doubt that the result will change in any notable way. They'll probably "find" just enough discrepancies to cut his majority from 63% down to maybe 55% and still leave him as President. They may even argue that this proves how fair the elections were, because when faced with protests they went back and altered the result.

From everything I've seen in the past month or so what I think we can't handle is the truth about Iran. And that is they are nowhere near as radically Islamic, backward, or crazy as we have been led to believe.

Yes, I think they can handle their own democracy.

I'm in agreement with you here. As I said in an earlier post I don't think the supreme leader and the council will be willing to give up their strangle hold on power. After all one of the reforms Mousavi is pushing for is that in the future they also elect their supreme ruler. So no I don't see Ayatollah agreeing to put himself out of a job. Dictators never do.

But I may have not heard correctly when the BBC said there were a million people at yesterday's demonstration. I think I just heard 2 million. Those numbers (either one) are simply huge. In my opinion to great to continue to hold absolute power of them.

I see it a bit differently. If they recounted a few areas and found that the results differed by that much, they'd be admitting to gross levels of fraud and would lose what little credibility they have left. There are only two options here...a do-over or a dig-their-heels-in. My money is on the latter. But they will have given up any pretense of democracy.

Part Explanation for Above Posted Pic.

The purpose of this guide is to help you participate constructively in the Iranian election protests through Twitter.
    1. Do NOT publicise proxy IP's over twitter, and especially not using the #iranelection hashtag. Security forces are monitoring this hashtag, and the moment they identify a proxy IP they will block it in Iran. If you are creating new proxies for the Iranian bloggers, DM them to @stopAhmadi or @iran09 and they will distributed them discretely to bloggers in Iran.
    2. Hashtags, the only two legitimate hashtags being used by bloggers in Iran are #iranelection and #gr88, other hashtag ideas run the risk of diluting the conversation.
    3. Keep you bull$hit filter up! Security forces are now setting up twitter accounts to spread disinformation by posing as Iranian protesters. Please don't retweet impetuosly, try to confirm information with reliable sources before retweeting. The legitimate sources are not hard to find and follow.
    4. Help cover the bloggers: change your twitter settings so that your location is TEHRAN and your time zone is GMT +3.30. Security forces are hunting for bloggers using location and timezone searches. If we all become 'Iranians' it becomes much harder to find them. 5. Don't blow their cover! If you discover a genuine source, please don't publicise their name or location on a website. These bloggers are in REAL danger. Spread the word discretely through your own networks but don't signpost them to the security forces. People are dying there, for real, please keep that in mind...
