Right now, the NFL is investigating the "soft" balls, but how they would prove anything now is questionable. Seems like maybe whoever made the accusation needed to make it during the game. This article from CNN sums up my take on the issue:

And it was brought up in the 3rd Q...the nfl already knows damn well they were deflated or it wouldnt be all over the damn news...what do you expect them to do stop the game and weigh the balls and come out and announce the pats have been caught cheating ...game over colts to the super bowl? it doesnt work like that.

Also the home team "ball attendant" is suspect ....even if they do use the same balls. Why they use a home team employee and not an NFL employee is beyond me.

When I'm blowing up a beachball no matter how fast I rush to get the rubber stopper back in the hole some air always escapes. And that's in mid-summer. It must be ten times harder in January.

Id guess they inflate the balls in doors with some sort of bad ass pump. Ball integrity is a big deal (in real life and football ) not something they take lightly. Well until game time that is ..when they give the balls to a home team ball boy for some odd reason..pretty sure that will change after this year

 

If it wasnt the known cheaters from new england it wouldnt be as big of a deal but when you spygate your way to 3 rings and get caught destroying the integrity of the game once again people are gonna talk...its supposed to be the NFL not the damn WWE.
