• Several in his inner circle said they avoid him as he rants and lashes out at his rivals.
  
  
• One advisor said he is in "self-destruct mode" and seems "irresponsible and chaotic."
  

Former President Donald Trump is in "self-destruct mode" and becoming isolated from his inner circle as he reels over the midterm-election results, sources told the CBS correspondent Robert Costa.

After speaking with several of Trump's longtime friends, donors, and aides, Costa found many said the former president is listening to few people and is being mean-spirited about his rivals.

Several people close to the former president said they are tired of his ranting and are avoiding him as he remains holed up in Mar-a-Lago ahead of his daughter Tiffany Trump's wedding on Sunday.

In the last few days, Trump has lashed out at his main GOP political rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whom he has nicknamed Ron DeSanctimonious, and Virginia. Gov. Glenn Youngkin, whose name he bizarrely said, "sounds Chinese."

In both instances, Trump took credit for their rise to power through his endorsements.

"I have never seen him more irresponsible and chaotic than he is today," a Trump advisor told Costa, the chief election-and-campaign correspondent at CBS.

"He seems to be in self-destruct mode. It is irresponsible to attack DeSantis and Youngkin, and it's irresponsible to announce at any time in the near future."

Trump has promised to make "a very big announcement" on November 15 at Mar-a-Lago, which is widely accepted to be about his plans to run for office in 2024.

The Trump adviser told Costa it was especially irresponsible for the former president to announce the Georgia runoff in December between Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and his Republican challenger, Herschel Walker, which could decide control of the Senate.

After the expected Republican "red wave" failed to materialize during the midterms, Trump has received rare criticism from within his party.

Many of Trump's chosen candidates in competitive races failed to win, and numerous election-denying candidates lost gubernatorial, attorney-general, and secretary-of-state races in battleground states.

On Wednesday, the Huffington Post reported that attendees to former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago speech announcing his third consecutive run for president were not allowed to leave the country club until he was finished speaking — and that apparently, some attendees appeared to wish to do so.

"Donald Trump announced his latest bid for the White House to a practically captive audience at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Tuesday night," reported Ed Mazza. "ABC’s Jonathan Karl called the speech 'incredibly low energy' and said he saw people leaving in the middle of it ― until they were blocked from departing."

Further, according to the report, "ABC’s Olivia Rubin filmed a crowd forming near the doors, waiting for a chance to leave as Trump rambled in the background."

Trump's announcement, which comes as he continues to face dual criminal investigations around his role in the plots to overturn the 2020 election and the stash of highly classified documents stored at Mar-a-Lago, is the culmination of months of hints that the former president would try to retake the office from President Joe Biden in 2024.

"The announcement also comes as polls say his popularity within the GOP has plunged. One new poll showed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), a one-time Trump acolyte and potential 2024 rival, surging past him in multiple states," said the report. "Trump insiders had reportedly urged him to delay his announcement." Some have worried that it could complicate GOP efforts to get out the vote in Georgia, where a runoff will determine whether Democrats hold a 50 or 51 seat majority in the Senate.

According to another report, many Republican voters are unhappy with Trump's new run, fearing that it could split the party and hurt their chances in 2024.

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday raged at a report from the Associated Press earlier this week that staff at his Mar-a-Lago club would boost their security screening for guests after they let Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes in to have dinner with him.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump argued that the security protocols at Mar-a-Lago were just fine and that any reports suggesting otherwise were "fake news."

"The story in AP, written by the untalented and very unreliable Jill Colvin, who I unfortunately got to know at the White House, is Fake News," the former president wrote. "We have very strong security, especially with the extremely talented Secret Service Agents on premises, but when I know someone, as I did Ye, we’re not going to have my guests strip searched, thrown against walls, and otherwise physically beaten. The anonymous sources don’t exist. Stories to the contrary are FAKE NEWS!"

In reality, security concerns about Mar-a-Lago didn't only arise when Fuentes got through, as a Russian national posing as a phony heiress also gained access to the club on multiple occasions.

Such security concerns are particularly relevant given that Trump also stashed top-secret government documents at his resort and refused to return them even when served a lawful subpoena requesting that he do so.

Trump furiously denies calling for 'termination' of the Constitution in wild new rant

Former President Donald Trump on Monday angrily denied that he had called for the termination of portions of the U.S. Constitution.

Two days after Trump created a firestorm by once again claiming his 2020 election loss was fraudulent and then writing on Truth Social "A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great 'Founders' did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!" he is now attacking the press for reporting on his rant.

With one conservative pundit calling his Saturday rant "political suicide," the former president went off on another tirade on Monday in two new Truth Social posts larded with more elections conspiracy lies.

The former president kicked off his latest attack on the press, writing, "The Fake News is actually trying to convince the American People that I said I wanted to 'terminate' the Constitution. This is simply more DISINFORMATION & LIES, just like RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA, and all of their other HOAXES & SCAMS."

He then added, "What I said was that when there is 'MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION,' as has been irrefutably proven in the 2020 Presidential Election, steps must be immediately taken to RIGHT THE WRONG. Only FOOLS would disagree with that and accept STOLEN ELECTIONS. MAGA!"

Not content with that, he continued in all-caps, "SIMPLY PUT, IF AN ELECTION IS IRREFUTABLY FRAUDULENT, IT SHOULD GO TO THE RIGHTFUL WINNER OR, AT A MINIMUM, BE REDONE. WHERE OPEN AND BLATANT FRAUD IS INVOLVED, THERE SHOULD BE NO TIME LIMIT FOR CHANGE!"

It should be noted that there is no mechanism to redo an election, whether there was fraud or not.
