Greta Thunberg’s trans-Atlantic voyage on a ‘zero-carbon yacht’ has been rocked by revelations that crew will fly to New York in a gas-guzzling plane to bring the boat back to Europe.

It is claimed that this would generate more emissions than the yacht saves and threatens to leave the 16-year-old’s plans to chart an environmentally friendly route to the United States in tatters.

On Wednesday, the Swedish eco-campaigner left Plymouth on the Malizia II for a two-week journey to the United Nations headquarters where she will address a climate change meeting.

But last night, it was confirmed that two crew will have to fly to the US east coast city to man the 60ft yacht on its return.

All of the nonsense about profits, etc seems to have ignored the fact that it can take years to determine if a particular aspect of a plane is even safe.

How many crashes have there been where now largely obsolete planes have encountered problems years after they were first put into service? I've lost count. We have no clue about the effects of that fuel on planes years after they were first put into service. We have no clue about a lot of things.

I would also bet the fake Texan who's clearly not even from the US knows nothing about fuel production or the refining industry. Not exactly environmentally friendly stuff.

First of all how often do you think that I travel overseas? Do you do no air travel?

Second of all, not having an automobile and getting everywhere by foot, bicycle or public transportation I more than offset my carbon signature and I’m not even attempting to do that.

Thirdly, I can’t help but notice that Greta is avoiding the first and third largest emitter countries. This inattention is similar to the inattention paid to these countries by anti industrialist and anti capitalist concerns which causes some to assume that she is working within their agenda. I don’t wish to say either way at this point. But it is curious!

 

The largest emitter per capita is Qatar. She’s not going there either.

I will try this one more time.

If emissions have a certain negative value per unit and a particular country is producing the most units then is it not logical to say that that country is the biggest negative contributor?

Greta has never even mentioned China or India much less have plans to go there.

 

Pardon me but this post sounds like a charter to do nothing because my neighbour has done nothing.

Greta Thunberg, the Swedish child activist who doesn't know much but is very certain of what she's saying, is having her heyday in the U.S., fiercely putting on her "I won't eat those peas" face for the cameras, telling the U.S. Congress they're not trying hard enough, leading a giant global protest today, and getting hailed as the child savior of the Earth.

Just one glitch here. Her home nation of Sweden — yes, you read right: Sweden — isn't buying the global warming claptrap anymore. Mark Morano over at Climate Depot has found a damning survey.

An international opinion poll published today reveals that half of the UK population and most European citizens are sceptical about the conventional climate alarm.

Despite blanket coverage of the antics of Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion on the BBC and elsewhere in the media, just 51% of Britons think that mankind is the main cause of climate change.
And as the poll reveals, a majority of Europeans, including two thirds of Scandinavians, are dissenters from the climate "consensus".

According to GWPF director, Dr Benny Peiser, the general public is hard to fool:
"The public can tell when they are on the receiving end of a hard sell. The more climate alarmists scream about emergencies, the more the mainstream media shut down any dissent, the less convinced the man in street will be."

So let's break down the chart here.

On Friday, Greta Thunberg let the enemies of the earth have it via an op-ed published by Project Syndicate.

In addition to saying fossil fuels “are literally” killing humanity, the teenager also fingered her ultimate manmade enemy — literally man-made: “colonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression.”

Along with early-twentysomething cohorts Luisa Neubauer and Angela Valenzuela, Thunberg lunged after lewd lovers of ‘lectricity in a piece titled “Why We Strike Again.”


In it, the 16-year-old laid out a prediction of fossil fuel use eleven years from now:

[R]ecent research shows that we are on track to produce 120% more fossil fuels in 2030 than would be consistent with the 1.5°C limit. The concentration of climate-heating greenhouse gases in our atmosphere has reached a record high, with no sign of a slowdown. Even if countries fulfill their current emissions-reduction pledges, we are headed for a 3.2°C increase.

As pointed out by The Daily Wire, those numbers show the Paris Climate Accord to have fallen short.

In 2015, the Paris climate accord gave every country in the world the ability to set its own goals to combat the climate crisis. World leaders agreed to do their part toward stopping planet temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius—later updated to 1.5 degrees—above pre-industrial levels.

Even the left-leaning New York Times admitted that the Paris Climate Accord has been a failure, reporting that “even if every country did manage to fulfil its individual pledge, the world would still be on pace to heat up well in excess of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) over preindustrial levels, the threshold that world leaders vowed to stay ‘well below’ in Paris because they deemed it unacceptably risky.

Now to extinction, from the young activist and her crew:

Fossil fuels are literally choking the life from us.

She believes the work to be done “must be powerful and wide-ranging.”


And why? Because our crisis isn’t “just about the environment.”

Let’s check it out::

It is a crisis of human rights, of justice, and of political will. Colonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression have created and fueled it.

In with the new:

We need to dismantle them all. Our political leaders can no longer shirk their responsibilities.”

In her view, we must “[change] perceptions,” “[shift] public opinion,” and employ “schoolchildren” to take the lead in raising awareness. In fact, we must “change everything.”

That’s her goal.

Therefore:

[W]e will keep up a steady drumbeat of strikes, protests, and other actions. We will become louder and louder. We will do whatever it takes to persuade our leaders to unite behind science so clear that even children understand it.

They’re certainly becoming louder. Or, at least, they’re being given more of a voice. In September — just hours before a Democratic debate in Houston — activists dangled themselves from a bridge, ultimately costing taxpayers millions of dollars (here).

I’ll never stop wondering why, when talking about issues which have nothing to do with democratic concepts, people will invoke democracy. How do we stop this trend?

And speaking of stopping stuff, pro-battery Greta charges the reader:

Join us. Participate in our upcoming climate strikes in Madrid or in your hometown. Show your community, the fossil-fuel industry, and your political leaders that you will not tolerate inaction on climate change anymore. With numbers on our side, we have a chance.

I ask with authenticity, how do we show them? Not use electricity? Not go anywhere? Not do anything? Anyone who does that will wreak havoc in their life.

As for hanging from bridges like dingleberries, in my view, that doesn’t help.

 

The truth is that no one except the extremely hard core activists will be willing to make the kind of sacrifices she is calling for.

It would be too arid an existence.

She’s better left ignored.

 

The planet will, within three generations, redefine ' arid existence ' for us, and our great grandchildren will wonder how we could have been so stupid.

 

So no air travel, no cars, no meat? This is Greta’s wish for us. Is this the kind of existence you want for yourself?

 

I don't want that kind of existence, but I'm smart enough to choose 'bad' when I'm intelligent enough to anticipate 'worse'.

 

Ok. What is your practical solution to this problem?
To me her plan for massive economic dislocation would devastate workers in entire industries. What do we do with them and their family’s basic needs?

 

The scale of this problem is too immense for me to prescribe solutions. I only know that the scale of an effective solution will be on her spectrum, and not on yours, or mine.

When the great rivers of Asia, including China, depend upon what flows out of Tibet, and when that areas glaciers are gone, the world will experience water wars and dislocation far far in excess of elective change that occurs to us.

I don't at the moment believe we can keep temp rise under 3 deg C, and that will be devastating.

No more coal fired power. No more fossil fuel transport. Grass fed beef only. These are necessary.

 

Then we need to get China and India on board because coal is their fuel of choice. But Greta is silent on these countries. Even though they are the first and third emitters respectively.

She is not a climate scientist but speaks like one.

It’s time for the grown ups to step in and tell a petulant child that she is not properly trained in climate science.

It’s time for someone to remind her that her idealism will truly harm many workers and their families who will be deprived of income.

If she says she doesn’t care as I suspect she will then we will see the real face of Greta!

 

I asked myself if you could possibly be just trolling on this, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, or a pardon of a particular kind.

No one needs a climate science qualification to say :-

" Do not listen to me, listen to the science ".

Now that is what this teenager actually said.

I can have an intelligent discussion on climate change with practically any nationality on the planet except Americans .

That is because your toxic politics has utterly neutered your ability to admit there is a global problem of environmental collapse, driven by climate change resulting from greenhouse gas emissions arising from human activity. You have bathed yourselves in politicised news bubbles, fed by the occasional science quack.

You don't acknowledge that this problem is only solvable by concerted global action, and you refuse to play your part in that action. You have lost your global leadership in the only problem that matters between now and 2050.

She is right to draw the analogy of our house being on fire. It is on fire. We should be panicking into uncomfortable radical solutions.

Keep in mind that science has made enormous paradigm shifts in it’s history.

Right now academia is beholden to interests that want science to regurgitate their agenda and every professor knows which side his bread is buttered on.

Also the fact that Greta refuses to debate this issue with anyone who disagrees with her speaks volumes.

 

Perhaps she is uncomfortable debating in a foreign language, constrained as she is with a mild autistic disability.

Frankly, I suspect she also is weary of engaging with idiots.

Your statements on science paradigm shifts, and academia, ...... What are you saying in plain English ? Do you believe the overwhelming scientific consensus, or not ?
