A friend of my wife's confided in us that she is having the same thing. She says she things about it and maybe wants it, but then just loses any desire for it.

 

I wouldn't be to concerned about it. Hormone therapy may be needed.

From my personal experience, i think its more of a revolution than a crisis.

I knew a couple that did. I'm not sure it was just reaching that age made them feel frantic or unhappy, rather that's how they already felt at that point in life and they now considered if they could do anything to change that.

 

Midlife crisis is a layman’s term for a psychological condition.
It’s usually manifested as an anxiety about the future and regrets about the past,
Facing mortality and trying to reclaim the glory days of youth.

 

Any details on how it is effecting you? You can have very different experiences from perimenopause, during and post menopause. There's physical and emotional issues to deal with, and there definitely isn't a one-size-fits-all solution.

 

I am not sure I would call it a midlife crisis, but as I reached middle age what had been a modest libido decided to take off!

It’s a rollercoaster. Some days, weeks, or months I have very low desire. Then I get some crazy feelings.

Still always very low desire for actual intercourse though. Which is strange.

 

It depends on what you call a crisis. Personally, I cared too much about other people's opinions, and tried to live by their standards to a point in my life. After that, I realized that all those moral standards were a sham, and tied to enjoy myself as much as possible. Is this a crisis? It depends on your definition. But I'm certainly much happier than before, and I feel like I'm a better person.

My wife is stuck in the same moral standard rut as you had been. I wish she (and so many others) would snap out of it like you did.
