Most of the people who drank the cyanide were not stupid or crazy, they had legitimate causes they believed in. The People's Temple started out doing a lot of good work for the poor and disadvantaged. But cult mentality takes a long time to develop, the brainwashing is subtle and slow and incremental, and people usually don't realize how much they've been deceived and manipulated until it's too late. Also, Jim Jones was a master at manipulation.

Look at how the Nazis were able to take over Germany, or how people just blindly follow whatever their church or Limbaugh/Savage/Coulter say (OK OK left-wingers do it too). The lies, half-truths, vague generalities, slogans, and historical misperceptions sink in and eventually the followers can't even think logically anymore - you try to use logic and facts with them but they've been trained to distrust logic and facts. They've been trained not to think for themselves and to believe in improbable and overly complicated conspiracies. Their thoughts and deeds are guided by their emotional attachment to the leader and their need for his approval, and their need to keep that leader in place as the glue that holds their delusional world together.

Most do not know the WHOLE story. There were some who escaped and their videos are on YouTube.

It is a FACT that Jones was involved with the CIA. There is substantial evidence to suggest that Jones was working with them and they performed mind control experiments, possibly the entire thing was designed by the CIA.

Fact:

Truth serum was found on the grounds.

There is NO WAY you can get 910 people to commit suicide. There HAD to be those who refused and the five or so who escaped prove this fact.

Its believed Jones WORKED for the CIA and the CIA infiltrated the camp and was performing mind ultering experimentation on these people AND on Jones himself.

BEFORE any of this happened the CIA had a secret file on Jones.

After Jones was shot in the head there was a CIA message from his radio station broadcasted on a special CIA channel

Most were murdered by injections

Jones,before his death, ordered millions sent overseas .

It is possible to get people to commit suicide or do other stupid things, cults work that way. Even in San Francisco there were many Temple members who were afraid to speak out or leave the group, and SF's a big city - they coulda just walked away! They were in one of the free-est cities in America, and yet they were still trapped by the mind control manipulation scheme. In the jungle in the middle of nowhere, they were truly trapped.

It's plausible that there was some larger evil conspiracy, but the regular story is just as plausible. Cults are very dangerous. Jim Jones had major connections, he was a very powerful man, he could have gotten all the guns, drugs, passports, etc... he wanted even without a CIA conspiracy. The CIA might have been watching him because he was a left-wing commie psycho cult leader who was negotiating with the USSR for a possible mass migration there. He got his followers to sign over their bank accounts to the USSR treasury. I'm sure the CIA was all over him just for that stuff.

There's a lot of unanswered questions, but the regular story is really just as intriguing, complicated, and as plausible as any of the conspiracy theories.

 

Many of the YouTube videos are from actual documentaries from news sources.

 

Some credible sources would be nice.

I posted a response to a subject which included some interesting videos I believed others would also enjoy and later responded to your post that some videos were actual documentaries. Without watching any of the videos you lecture me that I’m somehow childish with a presentation of the facts that they were actually documentaries? You consider your response as a standard to judge true maturity?

It’s best that you add me to your ignore list and I shall do the same towards you. I won’t entertain a frivolous exchange of words and name calling over such a minor issue, I concede that you’re the best.
