I'm not defending or excusing her actions, asswipe!

I'm saying that a life sentence or the death penalty should be reserved for people who rape and/or kill people.

However, in Texas you can get life for littering.

Hopefully the Supreme Court will overturn this clear case of "cruel & unusual punishment" and reign in you sick fuck barbarians in Texas....

The woman pleaded guilty and offered some mitigating circumstances in her defense at sentencing (as I understand it). The prosecution was allowed to put up signs such as liar while she was speaking.

Note: they were allowed to do this by the Judge doing the sentencing. That is simply unbelievable.

She will go, I think, for 2-3 years real time and she will do parenting and anger management courses etc. She is a simply an ordinary person who couldn't cope, she isn't a predator or a monster.

 

If there was any state that one would receive the death penalty from this action it would be Texas....

99 years ...that is a strong term....(could have been life and 1 year)

I would like to bring back the Hard Labor Prisons. I would like to see someone like Ms Escalona worked to death over a period of years. She should be made to repay society before her demise. Same way with others like her.

 

She did not plead guilty. If she had, then it wouldn't have gone to trial. They offered her the 45 years instead of taking her chances with the judge's decision. Remember, she's not a monster - she loves her kids.

They are going to appeal the decision. I hope she is never set free.

 

What I think is the biggest injustice, is this "mother" tortured her child and there are so many people who have trouble or can't have children. Those childless couples would have cherished that little girl.

What, if anything was done to the other children? I can't believe this two year old was the only child to be abused. That whole family needs serious counseling, which I hope they get.



Massachusetts (and maybe other states) have "safe haven" laws where parents who are overwhelmed with a baby can drop the child off with no penalties or questions asked. I wish that option was taken before this travesty occurred.

 

Texas also has the safe haven laws.

The only court which will have a chance to overturn this will be SCOTUS, lower federal courts won't be able to send it back for retrial.

Aggravated assault of a child resulting in serious injury IS a capital crime in Texas. Not that many cases have gone as far as this one but not that many cases are as heinous as this one.

Good way to remove all incentive the prisoners have to behave themselves while inside... the prison officers are going to hate you.

i do maintain that the attacker should be held to the same levels of abuse as the victems so that they would know how it felt

and for those that believe in any way this case will get overturned look at how rarely the supreme court overturns texas cases where the defendant pleads giulty

if everybody got what we thought they deserved it would be a cruel world one i wouldnt want to live in...since alot of people think she deserves it im gonna go the other direction, to say that if it was a split second of rage and she regrets doing then i would plead for her freedom but in the case that she got treatment and wasng allowed to be around her daughter again unless the daughter at an age of maturity agreed to see her . i would also hope that her daughter could forgive her mother for that evil she did cause holding onto hate only hurts her. this sounds all high and mighty but dont we all want to live in a eorld. where we believe good happens instead of extending the evil that happens. i know bad stuff happens all the time but being able to forgive is better to be able to give Evil for evil.

 

I think the worst thing, is to realize that woman was actually punished. Every year abuser hurt, and even kill their children, and get off with only 3 months or even time served. The ONLY time they seem to get long prison sentences is when the media has been involved, and sometimes not then.
