I don't mind them if I don't have a headache. They can add to the fun of summer or holidays, especially when having a good time, and the professional displays can put on a pretty good show.

They've definitely gotten out of control though.

I grew up in exactly the type of area you'd expect people to set off fireworks but real fireworks were illegal in PA and could only be purchased out of state. It was pretty rare for anybody to have them. I can actually count on one hand the amount of times anybody had any kind of fireworks in my neighborhood and still have fingers left over. Even having a bottle rocket was rare.

Starting around a decade ago that seemed to change. Not only did I start seeing the real ones being set off by amateurs on the 4th but it seems like they even sell them here now. Now I hear real fireworks being set off randomly all year round. It's a bit much.

 

I don't mind the light shows. It is the noise I can't stand. Many people who have been in the military do not like the loud noises. If a person has PTSD it could become dangerous.
We used to have a neighbor that shot off fireworks quite a lot. Finally had to buy his house just to get rid of him and his kids.
Many places people fire their guns instead of fireworks. Jackson had several people killed this new years. One woman shot while in her house. Some decided to shoot into cars. A one year old boy was shot in the head. Another kid shot in the arm.

 

July 4th is the greatest day of the year for me. No other holiday comes close.... Fireworks are just a bonus....

I love fireworks. We go watch every year on the forth. My dog is fine with the professional ones, but hates he neighborhood ones.

 

Fireworks are ok.
Popping caps in the air is not a good idea!
Those bullets don't stay up there, and you don't know were they will come down.

 

I can take them or leave them.
They're illegal to buy here and I always laugh at the people that go out of state to buy them and light off some of their good ones before the 4th and it's not even dark out yet.

 

So if they are illegal to buy there, is it legal to set them off there?

 

I had a black labrador trained to hunt. Every time a boom went off, he'd look to the sky for falling ducks. No shit.

 

We have my daughter's three dogs while she is away for 10 days...and the fireworks have them too frightened to go outside to poop.
The three legged rescue dog, the German Sheppard is the worst...he's frightened about everything, and the fireworks make it worse.

 

I love professional fireworks (except for the dynamite.) I HATE the ones people light off in the neighborhood. One of my dogs is terrified of them.

I have a friend who has PTSD and fireworks cause her horrible anxiety. She was a Bosnian refugee as a child and heard a lot of shooting and bombing.

I love them!!!

 

I enjoyed them growing up and was excited when I finally was able to start lighting them off. Of course a few short years later, they started banning them all around where I live so now they mean nothing to me. Another thing I enjoyed in life that was taken away.

 

A big fan of fireworks here. The mayor here has banned the August 01st display though claiming that it was harmful to the environment........
We rather dangerously used to strip down airbombs, then repackage them in tin cans to see how large a crater we could make - Yep, striking matches towards a homemade gunpowder bomb ... Brilliant!

 

Love the fireworks. Always have. Though it does bother me when the idiots in my neighborhood buy they huge packages from out of state and set them off in the street. They just don't understand how much damage one can do to a house if it lands on the roof. I've seen a couple houses go up in flames because of the stupidity involved.
