Your implication is that the Nixon impeachment was precedent for not impeaching a president once they left office. There's nothing to suggest that they dropped the Nixon impeachment because they thought it was unconstitutional. They only wanted him out of office. Also, Nixon left office with two years remaining on his term. Trump had less than a month. Two completely different circumstances.

And don't get all bent because you're ready to move along...

President Trump could still be charged criminally.

Course, no court but a San Francisco district court would find the the "dog whistle " code words caused an insurrection.

Off that high moral ground there @Bron Zeage.

1,000 federal officers injured/killed last summer at the hands of BLM atifa rioters already hold that ground.

This is where I look down into your hole in the ground and remind you that I'm the one who wants to see all who commit crimes against life and property accountable for their actions. Unlike our current crop of conservatives, I do not fear the justice system. Threats of "We'll investigate your side too and see how you like that!" are laughable. No one in the GOP wants anyone asking questions about what they were doing in the days before the Capitol was attacked and a policeman was killed by Trump supporters.

If there is a difference between BLM and whatever bugaboo scares you this week, it might be that the BLM people did not believe they were acting under a shield of Presidential authority.

They might get away with it but one of Trump's lawyers lied and said two deputies were shot at point blank by BLM supporters. When in reality the officers were shot and killed by a member of the far right Boogaloo Boys.

Actually you are right about this. The articles of impeachment against Nixon had only been approved by the committee. And chances were very good if the House had impeached Nixon he would have enjoyed the same protection from Republicans in the Senate as Trump just did. Their strategy was that yes crimes had been committed and Nixon's men were going to prison but there was no proof that Nixon was personally involved himself

But then the "smoking gun" passages on the Nixon tapes came out proving he was in fact personally involved and actually directed some of the crimes. And at that point Republicans knew they could no longer protect him. So they sent a select group of Republicans over to the White House to meet with Nixon where they told him the tapes doomed him and they could no longer protect him. They told him if he did not resign immediately they would fast track the articles of impeachment and he would most definitely be convicted by the Senate. But if he did resign they would drop the impeachment proceedings.

Nothing said Nixon could not be impeached and convicted in the Senate if he resigned. In fact there was even a precedent for doing just that with one government official who resigned to avoid being convicted by the Senate but was still impeached tried and convicted by the Senate after he resigned. So in Nixon's case dropping all the impeachment proceedings was just part of the deal they offered Nixon to get him to resign.

    Arrogance.
Bron thinks he is the only one around here who "wants to see all who commit crimes against life and property accountable for their actions."
As for the rest of your rant, Shooter is unsure what it is you're spewing about.
And honestly, doesn't want to give you the opening to spew more lies and propaganda.

The fact remains that those 1,000 Federal officers who were killed/injured last summer claimed the high moral ground before you crawled up there, on the shoulders of Bryan Sicknick.

Now, if you decried the violence from the BLM/Antifa riots this summer, please point out your posts to Shooter.
Cause he went and looked, and couldn't find a single post where you said the violence before January 6,2021 was unacceptable and those responsible should be held accountable.

I like to be succinct when responding to you, so you don't dodge someone else's post.

Whether or not you can document it on a porn board, I have always believed those who commit crimes against people and property should be held accountable. It's not as if it just occurred to me at age 64.

Bryan Sicknick died as the result of injuries suffered by people who represented Trump's policies and goals.

Now, in typical Trump fashion, he and the rest of his supporters have run sniveling away. The only way Trump could have remained President was by a violent overthrow of legal government. The Trump supporters who attacked the Capitol and killed Bryan Sicknick were attempting to do that.

No, their deaths are not sematics. I just do not want to blame people with murder that may not have caused a death. Even if I do not like a person I will not try to get him convicted for murder he did not commit.

Too bad you do not feel the same way about all of the other lives lost in riots.

    Well, Shooter doesn't think so.
See, the death of an officer, any officer, or for that matter, the violent death of anyone is abhorrent. The death of officer Sicknick is indeed a tragedy and those responsible need to be held accountable. By the courts, and by God.

You are correct in saying that the only way Trump could remain president is the violent overthrow of the US government.

You are so incorrect to say that Trump supporters were trying to accomplish that on January 6th. The mob that rampaged through the capitol had no plan, no leadership, no strategy beyond tearing up the capitol and halting, temporarily, the election certification.

You simply cannot believe that President Trump thought he could remain president through violence, and most specifically, that sending his supporters to the capitol to loot and rampage would accomplish that.

Really. What possible thing was going to happen if the rioters did take the capitol?
Trump would show up with the nuclear codes and declare victory?

They were certain that they could overturn the vote because Q told them so! Trump egged them on with his calls to hold Mike Pence accountable to do the right thing.

Are you one of the many that still believe that Trump will in a landslide?

Trump said he will in a landslide, I'm only repeating his words.

It is well known that Q believed this was their predicted storm. Not my assessment.

And Trump did single it Mike Pence...

"Mike Pence, I hope you're gonna stand up for the good of our Constitution and for the good of our country, and if you're not I'm gonna be very disappointed in you, I will tell you right now," Trump said at the rally.

The people who attacked the Capitol Building believed the President would declare martial law, with Congress's approval and take control of the government. Nobody said it was a good plan.

Donald Trump is a stupid man, so his options are limitless. Trump believes thousands of dead people voted and voting machines can be programmed to change votes. Now, you claim Trump did not believe his mob could keep him in office? If not, what was his plan? Maybe he has the mentality of the abusive husband who kills his wife, after saying, "If I can't have you, nobody can have you," or as he told Kevin McCarthy, "Maybe they're more upset about the election being stolen than you are." Maybe he just wanted Senators and Congressmen to be roughed up. That would make him a monster in the eyes of most people, even more than he is now. The real question is when did he become a monster? Did being President make him into a monster, or have Trumpets been supporting a monster all along.

The motives of the people who attacked the Capitol will become clear as they are brought to trial.

"Whatever our ex-President claims he thought might happen that day... whatever reaction he says he meant to produce... by that afternoon, he was watching the same live television as the rest of the world.

"A mob was assaulting the Capitol in his name. These criminals were carrying his banners, hanging his flags, and screaming their loyalty to him.

"It was obvious that only President Trump could end this.

"Former aides publicly begged him to do so. Loyal allies frantically called the Administration.

"But the President did not act swiftly. He did not do his job. He didn't take steps so federal law could be faithfully executed, and order restored.

"Instead, according to public reports, he watched television happily as the chaos unfolded. He kept pressing his scheme to overturn the election!

"Even after it was clear to any reasonable observer that Vice President Pence was in danger... even as the mob carrying Trump banners was beating cops and breaching perimeters... the President sent a further tweet attacking his Vice President.

"Predictably and foreseeably under the circumstances, members of the mob seemed to interpret this as further inspiration to lawlessness and violence.
