As of today, Ohio is to start implementing and phasing out the ''lockdown'' and phasing the economy back open as of May 1st.

There are folks and business's that have been harmed by this temporary economic shut down/health crisis...I for one have not...

I'm 52 years old...I go to work everyday...I do as I wish on an everyday basis..go to stores, if they're open, gas stations, drive thru fast food restaurants, just about anything I want..

All in all, this has not affected me in any manner.

Now to your point...protests are damn sure required... it just has to be that way, we as a free society need to challenge Government, we need to let our elected officials that we are watching them, and we are going to let them know where we stand as a free society...and we will exercise our rights...continuously.

If we didn't do it didn't show the Government that will maintain our rights, then there will come a day that our exercised rights will slowly and quietly disappear.

Those that adhere to the belief that Government is their friend....well, I dont need to explain that concept to you.

 

If you worked in science you would not make such a statement!

Science works by hypothesizing then testing rigouroursly and subject to peer review the hypothesis is either rejected or continues to be tested.

Only commercial scientists have vested interests and I question and reject your scientific credentials because all i have seen you assert is your own economic interests in direct contravention of current scientific hypotheses!

I’m so fucking impatient with this now and I have presented time and again how preciously few people are dying of this compared to the total population and how few compared to the major human killers. But those don’t matter because they aren’t trendy like this virus.

So attack the entire economy of the west so you can live the drama you want while living in your mom’s basement while the rest of us suffer from lack of work and watch our carefully chosen investments and the scrimping and saving required to invest melt away so you can pretend to be righteous when in fact you would not know how to deal with a real crisis.

Which states are you referring to? I know of at least two of these states has low rates because it is sparsely populated. Wyoming and Montana.

The reason the numbers are so low is the non-therapeutic interventions that are taking place........Sweden is increasing such that they are already have social distancing in place but if you want an example of out of control just look at Brazil or the UK........have you already forgotten what happened in Italy! It is super spreader occasions like carnaval that caused the surge here in Holland and similarly in other places!@

So lets see if we have the timeline right.
On Wednesday and Thursday about 100 protesters, protested.
On Sunday cases spiked, mainly nursing home residents.
The incubation period for this thing is widely reported to be 14 days.

It all seems innocent enough, right? No Fascisti here! Although the extent to which Governors and Mayors can impinge on their citizens' rights DO have a line - Michigan Governor Whitmer has clearly crossed it. As for what's happening in other places, there are a lot of gray areas. It's important to realize that once 'The State' takes away rights, they never seem to be restored exactly as they were before.

Maybe some of these protesters have been watching what Sweden has been doing, without incurring resulting death/infection rates over many other nations.

That is oversimplifying and overlooking a key element. The Population of Sweden is roughly the same as the population of LA county, which accounts for over half of the state's Covid deaths. Many counties of California remain unaffected. The 'danger' areas of California are far more densely packed than all of Sweden. It's like comparing NYC to virtually any place on Earth with a similar population - plus, NYC being a major hub for international travelers.

In most areas, the preponderance of Covid deaths remain attributable to those with underlying medical conditions: over 65, heart disease, respiratory illnesses, diabetes etc.

We do NOT need these ham-fisted 'one size fits all' lockdowns.

 

The fact is that we do have at least six control groups to watch. 5 US States and Sweden are doing very little as far as lockdown orders and Sweden is openly saying that the science does not support the shut downs there. I’m sorry to say this to the lockdown lovers but there are not explosions of cases in these control groups and thank God we will have them for analysis after this is over. And I think it will be over soon.

The protests need to accelerate. I wonder if liberals will call for the national guard to be brought out if this happens.

I have provided data repeatedly about the small proportions of people affected especially relative to other health considerations but people are concerned about simple numbers.

This is intellectually lazy.

Sweden’s rate of death is about the same as the US as a whole from data I presented yesterday. Yes they had an additional 600 more deaths than California (I haven’t checked it out but I’m assuming that is true) but Sweden also has an older demographic.

The number of deaths in Sweden should be much higher if the rationalizations for the lockdown are correct.

The numbers in the Netherlands are definitely going down. I believe that hostels which can have up to 20 people in a room are still open but I could be wrong about this and the social distancing and stay in place orders are very similar to what people are describing to me from the states.

So given the very low proportions of especially deaths what possible excuse is there for not opening up the economy (even if slowly) when the economic damage is genuinely painful to families.

Are governments prepared to pay the full costs of their constituents bills for many more months without significant tax revenue or are they going to say just figure it out constituents.

I think it may be the latter in which case we are no longer are looking at a caring government vs a dread disease but rather a new war: elitism vs populism.

And yes comparing the number of deaths to the entire population is a measure of how impacted the total population is. And comparing the number of cases to the total is another way. In both cases the proportions are small and not worth the full on panic.

In this case Sweden got it right. Should they be forced to implement what you consider to be correct health procedures?
