As for Revel.... The issue was they weren't patient enough. The idea was a great one, to have a resort that wasn't based entirely on gambling to put AC on a different level for entertainment and luxury nightlife. When it opened, they did it huge. They had all of these huge promo concerts featuring the biggest acts they could find. Beyonce and Jay Z, some major pop acts that I forget, etc.

But it was like the Flamingo. They tried to open it before it was all finished, and it had to be bailed out and taken over before the first tower was even completed. After it failed, other casinos took the idea and ran with it. They added more nightlife, more non-casino things. New Jersey has been trying to move Atlantic City away from Vegas East for the better part of a decade. They've now built housing, built a college campus, built a convention center and a shopping/entertainment area (that had to be bought up by Bart Blatstein, who's buying up property there left and right), etc. Revel was just before its time and not done very well.
