Why not have a writer do it?

They know the kinds of things being spouted on about.

I don't think someone would have to look at every comment, but each one would have to be approved by said mod. Most are "good", "nice", and references to glazing a keyboard.

Maybe logging IPs to track the location of a person commenting as such could help in eliminating the constant barrage of people not bothering to vote but commenting nonetheless on stories.

I'm sure an IP is logged in order to allow someone to comment in the first place. As was said before it would involve a lot of work. I too would offer to work the stories site and validate comments and such...there must be a lot of people ahead of me in the waiting list.

 

Without doubt it is the voting that gives trolls their powers. The positive, negative is a huge manipulation tool. It was mentioned before about marks on a scale. This would stop the trolls having a huge effect on the voting, infact any type of voting that does not support averages would suffice. The sooner the better.

 

I still think the root of the problem is how the votes are tallied. A story shouldn't be allowed to hit below 50%. 50% should be the bottom because I haven't witnessed anything recovering from a score below that under normal circumstances.

 

The way it is now a couple of troll votes will see your story buried forever. You story will get more reads on page 1 in a couple of hours than it will in it's lifetime on any other page. One negative now and it's gone, taking away negatives must be a massive improvement.

 

This should be a case by case basis. Any authors currently active should have the right to get their negatives deleted especially if they have enough that it looks suspicious. Some stories have hundreds of votes but something like a thousand "reads". Things like that should be set right. It gives those stories a second chance.

It seems the right thing to do.

 

If all negative voting was done away with, authors could then re-post such stories again.

 

There are some people here who won't post anything until their stories turn over to the positive.

 

My money would be on the snowball Don.
Aren't we just getting ourselves worked up over not very much with these trolls- if that's what they are.
The comments are where our gentle readers can post whatever they like.
But once posted those comments come in for scrutiny by those who follow behind and the "Troll" will frequently get reamed by the next comment.
They want a negative reaction from the writer and if all they get, if one must be posted at all, is a polite request to explain their comment then they have failed.
If they upset you (I haven't had any; I'm not good enough) then they win, if they don't get a reaction or its simply polite ; then they have lost.

And if you want to help the healing process remember its just one person- with issues- he or she hasn't influenced anyone else, if they have read to the end of the story it will be because they like it so his audience will be antagonistic towards him.

And finally Lubutt17, I am so sad that you have felt driven from this site by the nasties, I enjoyed your stories, I hope you will reconsider.

I skimmed through most of the comments and I don't think I can really relate you all get so many reads that you get heard more than I do. Even if some douches try to ruin it they are fighting against the tide. Granted there are some exceptions Ejls and WSF and Lubutt were thrashed which I witnessed and pitied them for it. but for someone who still has stories under 1000 reads and the highest is at 14 hundred. I can't relate....

the negative raters I find occasionally are territorial. one voter hit me and ... shit I don't remember... someone else for the last contest. because we tagged the stories as interratial and they didn't want any stories but their favorites in that category. thats my additional observation

I don't know where your number reads came from? My highest story read would only be fourth on your small list of 7 stories. Your highest read number is well over 14 Thousand not 14 hundred.

The only high reads I have are in the joke section, where EVERY entry does because of the very small amount of submissions.

I love to mistreat my maggots after all they started it. I have made a great deal of study into the voting here, on lots of stories not only mine. It is clear as day it is fellow writers and well known posters who are the biggest culprits of malicious negative voting.

I nearly always allow open voting on everything I submit, but I decided to try logged on voters only to see what would happen. Someone went to the trouble of making 3 new accounts on the same day and their only action was to vote me down. I hope you can see a little now why I take good care of my maggots.:twisted:

You do get trolled you just don't realise it. The main aim of most of them is to get you off the front page; that is the only place you can get reads. You would be well advised to allow logged in voters only on your next submission. Although I do not believe in it you will either get lots of votes or learn a lot more about the maggots. I sent a p.m. to a writer here not long ago with the same advice and his current story has received more reads than all his others after just a few days. Other writers would have anonymously voted him off the page by now.

Finally though the most annoying thing about all this is the RIDICULOUS voting system which gives the maggots so much say. Change that and the maggots would have to grow their fly wings because there would be no shit to stir up, but their own.

So for now I will continue to enjoy my maggots and wollow in the fact that they are afraid to answer back with their own name. :excited: (I do the laughing.):excited:
