Dukes and dutchesses came from the Germanic tribes/clans that most western Europeans are descended from, and from the Romans.

I believe you to be vetting WhiteKnights or perhaps even Capt. Savahos...A gentleman is merely honorable or courteous nothing more. Meaning they may despise women but as long as they be polite to the ones they are forced to engage they pass as absolute gentleman. You mentioning Gay men only pointed to them being courteous as most have no use for women other than the odd fruitfly or female relative as evidenced by any gay thanksgiving or holiday meal...


I am what is called a Gentleman of Leisure a quite unseemly sort to be sure.

I like to think I am when it counts

 

I'm a gentleman. I wear a fedora and always tip it respectfully toward women and refer to them as "M'lady."

I ain't no gentleman, I'm a Southerner. We tip our hat to the ladies, hold doors for them, say 'Sir' and 'Ma'am', and generally treat people with respect, until they give us reason not to. We don't hold our pinkies out when we drink tea, we don't care which fork is for the salad, and we call the parlor the living room, and ain't is a proper word.

 

I'm such a gentleman, sometimes I lean on my elbows when I do it missionary style so as not to make her uncomfortable..
I'm considerate like that.
